Pose Library
A working reference for the poses you will meet most often in my classes: what they do for the body, the chakra they open, and the time of day I find they land best.
The starting point for almost every standing practice. Looks simple from the outside, but when done properly it builds full body awareness and sets the alignment for everything that follows.
A powerful standing pose with arms raised and hips squared forward. Builds heat through the legs and core while lifting the chest open. One of the best poses to start a morning practice with.
A deep hip flexor stretch with arms sweeping overhead, creating a full body opening from feet to fingertips. Builds balance and wakes up the whole front body after sleep.
A gentle backbend that opens the chest, strengthens the spine, and counters the forward curl of sleep. The chest lift stimulates energy and starts building heat without demanding too much from a cold body.
Wide legged stance, arms extended in opposite directions, gaze steady over the front hand. Builds strength through the thighs and outer hips while opening the chest. Strong and grounding in equal measure.
A lateral stretch that lengthens the side body, opens the hips, and creates space through the spine. Excellent for releasing the tension that builds in the waist and ribcage from sitting through a morning of work.
One of the most complete poses in yoga. Lengthens the spine, opens the hamstrings and calves, and sends blood toward the head for a natural midday energy lift. Works just as well as a full minute reset as it does in a flow.
A resting pose that gently stretches the lower back, hips, and thighs while quieting the nervous system. I use it as a transition pose, a rest, and a closing moment. It is the most versatile pose in the whole library.
A comfortable cross legged seat that closes every practice I teach. The spine lengthens, the breath settles, and the work of the session starts to integrate. Simple, still, and harder than it looks.
Taken slowly in the evening this pose melts tension from the hip flexors that have been shortened all day. Held with steady breath it becomes less of a stretch and more of a release. One of the most satisfying poses at the end of the day.
